Endowment Creates Opportunities for Future Musicians

Music students

Jerry Tallmon of Mitchell, Nebraska, graduated with a degree in Music and Physical Education in 1965. After graduation, Jerry taught high school band and chorus in Crawford, Kimball and Grand Island.

He later would go into the jewelry business with his father and brothers in Scottsbluff. Jerry was a charter member and director of the Sugar Valley Singers Barbershop Chorus and frequently served as a choral clinician.

Jerry joined the Living Legacy Society in 1989 naming Chadron State College as the beneficiary of a life insurance policy. Jerry died in 2012, and those who knew him can attest to his unlimited energy, optimism, passion for life and philanthropic heart.

His family decided that Jerry would have liked the music department to benefit from his gift and established the Jerry Tallmon Music Endowment.

Since its inception, seven students have received scholarships supporting their music education.
